ww44

I am already behind in keeping up with this blog.  My goal was to post at least once a week and I already failed at that.  So to recap last week, I didn't do too well.  Eric was a sweetheart and got me a black lab puppy for the weekend,

The Neuroma

I have been battling foot problems for several years now and finally it got so bad it was hurting all the time. I was diagnosed with a Neuroma in between my second and third toes on my left foot. I originally tried flat shoes, orthodics, and even schlerosing therapy. None of them truly made the problem go away, so this year I decided to have surgery to remove my neuroma. On August 19th I went under the knife. Apparently the nerve was supposed to be the diameter of angel hair pasta and mine was the size of a pea. No wonder my toes were spreading apart and I was in extreme pain. The podiatrist went in from the bottom of my foot, so that meant no walking or any weight on my foot for 3 weeks. That was a grueling 3 weeks of pushing this lovely scooter around.

I worked from home at first and I was off the pain killers in less than a week. Those pain killers are a doozy and I do not understand how people get addicted. They made me constipated and have extreme stomach cramps. My whole body felt icky on them and I wanted to stop taking them, but I couldn't sleep through the night without them. The BF would hear me moaning in the middle of the night and force me to take the drugs so both of us could sleep.

Back at work I got plenty of stares on my scooter. My boss said I should have used a wheelchair so I would get more sympathy. The little basket did not hold much. Getting lunch was tricky cramming to go containers in the basket. By the end of the 3 weeks I was pretty efficient on the scooter and could go pretty fast. Thank goodness I live in a wheelchair accessible condo and my work has ramps.

From the scooter I graduated to the Boot. It was painful at first. I hadn't walked on my foot in 3 weeks. My entire foot hurt to put weight on it and the scar felt like the stitches were ripping apart. The walk from the doctor's office to the car was a long and painful walk. I really wanted to get on the scooter and just ride it to the car. This is when I was most thankful for my handicap parking permit. I was in the Boot for 2 weeks before I moved into my shoes. I was thankful to get out of my Boot because it was causing hip pain in my right hip.

I have been in my shoes for almost 3 weeks now. I have been doing physical therapy and hope to be running again soon. I also hope that I don't have to wear ugly running schools for the rest of my life. I have been rubbing mederma and vitamin E on my foot daily and now I am working on desensitizing my scar.

Current Capabilities:
Jump Rope
Pilates - minus the push up position
Swimming - minus breast stroke..it hurts my hip
Boot Camp - minus burpies and mountain climbers and push ups
Walking - with shoes, without shoes is still iffy
Toe raises with shoes
Bike - no standing on the pedals

Starting of a Blog

Welcome to my blog...not really sure how you got here, but welcome. I think my main purpose of writing this is to journal my thoughts on being healthy and to track what I am doing. I have a habit of starting things and then not following through long term. I also have a tendency of getting sick. Hopefully by writing things down I will have better success.
